Chapel of Rest Podgorje

In a village that had been waiting 40 years for a chapel of rest with limited available space for construction, we designed a compact chapel of rest containing all necessary amenities: a room for paying respects, a small kitchen, restrooms, and a covered area for farewell ceremonies. The design incorporates exposed textured concrete, larch wood cladding, and dark grey metal details. The low-profile structure is partially embedded in the terrain, ensuring it does not compete visually with the dominant local church, St. Nicholas. Since the chapel is only used about five times a year, it is not heated continuously, but its internal insulation allows for rapid heating when needed.
